 The pediatric anesthesiology fellowship in collaboration with the Department of Anesthesia at Children’s Hospital of Michigan, offers an ACGME-accredited one-year program, and occurs at Children's Hospital of Michigan, Michigan’s only free-standing hospital dedicated to caring for children. The pediatric anesthesiology fellowship involves advanced clinical training in all aspects of anesthesia and perioperative pediatric medicine. This program allows exposure to anesthesiology for complex congenital disease, neurosurgery, neonatal surgery, craniofacial and scoliosis repair.

Didactics
For the first two months, fellows attend 45 minute bi-weekly didactic sessions covering a variety of pediatric anesthesia topics. They then participate in Fellows Conference which consists of case presentations and specific topic discussions. In addition, a weekly CME conference is facilitated by pediatric staff anesthesiologists, lecturers from other CHM departments or guests from outside institutions. Research is encouraged.
Rotations
Fellowship training includes rotations in the following disciplines:
- General pediatric surgery
- Pediatric cardiothoracic surgery (at least one month)
- Pediatric neurosurgery
- Pediatric orthopedics including spinal fusions
- Pediatric otolaryngology
- Pediatric ophthalmology
- Pediatric plastic surgery including craniofacial surgery
- Pediatric urology
- Pediatric transplant surgery
- Pediatric oral/dental surgery
- Pediatric burn surgery
- Pediatric radiological procedures
- Pediatric intensive care (one month)
Application Process
A qualified candidate must have satisfactory completion of the residency program in anesthesiology as required for entry into the examination system of the American Board of Anesthesiology.
