AMSA
believes in the adage, "It takes more than
medical school to make a physician." Our
initiatives in medical education strive to
improve medical curricula and to offer
learning opportunities for pre-medical,
medical and graduate students. As a
national organization, AMSA is the largest
and oldest independent organization of
medical students.
Members can be
involved in a number of projects sponsored
by Standing Committees, with topics from
AIDS awareness to women in medicine. AMSA
offers benefits such as insurance and
educational loans. Each year, there is a
National Convention and Regional Conferences
where members have the opportunity to meet
fellow students, participate in a variety of
events, and hear a diverse group of
speakers. AMSA is much more than an average
student organization.
The Wayne
State University AMSA chapter sponsors
many of our own events in addition to those
offered by the National organization. Our
Task Forces are actively involved in
education and health care on a local and
global level, and organize events ranging
from our annual toiletries drive in support
of the Cass Clinic, to the World Medical
Relief Project to send medical supplies over
seas. Additionally, we host several events
throughout the year including:
- Annual Instrument Sale - cosponsored
with BMA
- The "Names and Faces" and "Student
Directory" Publications
- Bone Marrow Drive
- Book Sale
- and our own annual chapter project
