About the AMA

The American Medical Association is the most influential medical society in the nation and is dedicated to "be an essential part of the professional life of every physician and an essential force for progress in improving the nation's health."

The AMA Medical Student Section (MSS) has nearly 50,000 members, and is the largest and most influential organization of medical students in the country dedicated to representing medical students, improving medical education, developing leadership, and promoting activism.  With clear objectives, strong core values, and a focus on the future of health care, the AMA-MSS has an active role in shaping the policy that affects us as medical students on a daily basis.  Some of the issues currently being addressed include:

- Medical Student Debt

- Health Care Access

- Combating Obesity in America

AMA at Wayne

Through our student chapter, county and state medical societies, and the national organization, members have unique opportunities to participate in community service, advocacy for public health, and leadership positions which give medical students greater representation in policy development.

We strongly encourage all students to join and become active in Wayne State's chapter of the AMA.  Our Constitution and Chapter Bylaws are available for viewing or for download.  These documents better define our purpose and objectives.  Information regarding membership, meetings, and the election of officers is included, along with descriptions of the various board positions and the responsibilities of each.  Please take some time to become better acquainted with our organization.

If you haven't joined yet, consider becoming a member.  Applications are available in front of Student Affairs or can be downloaded from the Membership page.

Already a member and looking for more?  Run for a board position, attend a meeting or conference, or volunteer for an upcoming event.  Feel free to contact any officer for more information on what we do and how you can get more involved.
