Lampoon!

Each year, the Aesculapians organize a charity event, LAMPOON, to raise money for a Detroit area charity. Past LAMPOON productions have raised money for charitable organizations such as Motor City Blight Busters, Children's Home of Detroit, Special Day Camps and Penrickton Center for Blind Children.  During LAMPOON, medical students from all four classes write, act, and produce their own skits to express their views about medical school life. It is also a time in which the students recognize and honor outstanding teachers and faculty with the presentation of the annual Lamp and Staff Awards.  This year we’ve raised the bar and selected TWO charities to benefit!

Rosa Parks Kids & EarthWorks Urban Farm

These organizations are subsets of Capuchin Soup Kitchen , which has been serving Detroit since 1883

Rosa Parks Kids is an organization that gives inner-city children a haven after school or during the summer day where they can spend time and read, learn, play, and interact with other children and adults in a safe and friendly environment. EarthWorks provides a similar service to inner-city kids, but lets them plant and maintain, and harvest gardens, and teaches them the merits of a healthy lifestyle. Both programs have an obviously positive impact on the community, but as a subsidiary of the not for profit Capuchin Soup Kitchen, both need funding through means such as donations.

In addition to our Lampoon event, we are seeking donations from anyone who can spare some extra money. It need not be a large sum - 5, 10, 20 dollars will go a long way - but these organizations need all of the help that they can get. If you would like to make a donation, there is a "PayPal" link below that will take you to the donation page. This process is entirely secure, your credit card information will not be distributed to anybody - not even us in Aesculapians - and the money will go directly to a Aesculapians bank account designated for these charities (e.g., not to a third party). Donations can be personal or anonymous, and for any amount that you wish.
