Meet the Staff
Dr. Silas Norman, Jr., Assistant Dean for Admissions
He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Internal Medicine where he serves as Director of Community Health Services. He has been involved in the admissions process at the Wayne State University School of Medicine for more than 25 years.
He received the Bachelor of Natural Sciences Degree from Paine College, Augusta, Georgia, and is a 1976 graduate of the Wayne State University School of Medicine. He completed his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the Detroit General Hospital.
Dr. Norman is active in church and civic affairs and organizations. He is Board Chairman of the Community Health Awareness Group, Inc., and a member of the Advisory Board of the HIV and Prisons Project of the National Minority AIDS Council. His awards and citations include the year 2000 Alumni Achievement Awards of both the United Negro College Fund, Inc., and the Organization of Black Alumni of Wayne State University.
Dr. Norman is a member of county, state, and national medical societies. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Internal Medicine and is certified as an Advanced Correctional Health Professional.
Dawn Yargeau, Program Specialist
She has worked in the Office of Admissions at the School of Medicine since coming to Wayne State University in 1992. She particularly enjoys getting to know the incoming class each year and tries to know each one by name. She is the main contact for all students and advisors.
Barbara Cotter, Secretary
She has worked in the Office of Admissions at the School of Medicine since November 2000. Though relatively new to the School of Medicine, she is familiar with Wayne State University where she continues her studies toward a master's degree in English. Raised in Detroit, she resides in nearby Hamtramck. She enjoys meeting and talking to students.
