CO-CURRICULAR POLICIES: 2007-2008 Academic Year
Students are expected to:
Be on time for all functions
- Seminars (both on Saturday and during the week)
- Activities at designated community site
- Credit will not be give for partial or late attendance
Hours must be spread evenly thru-out the year. As a suggestion, this would mean that you would begin in September, finish in May (9 months) and during each month you could complete 6 hours of co-curricular activities and attend one seminar (either week long or Saturday). Credit will not be given for more than 8 hours earned during a single month. Hours earned within a single month do not include seminar attendance. All hours must be done in the academic year. No credit will be given for hours done during winter and spring breaks, and throughout the summer. Exceptions to the policy: 1) if the year long committed service is ongoing through the winter and spring breaks and 2) the week long “medical mission” trip that Years I and II medical students may attend during spring break sponsored by WSU SOM.
Week long seminar credit
4 of 5 of the lunch time presentations will equal one seminar
All hours completed must contain proof of attendance, either via a signature or website (i.e. Cass Clinic).
Walks and fundraisers do not count for co-curricular credit.Non-contact (person/patient) hours count for 50% e.g.
- Blood/bone marrow drive
- HealthFOCUS - committee and or set up
- HuMed; BMA; AMA, AMSA and AMWA planning committees
- Other planning, organizing or non-contact hours are given at a 2 for 1 ratio
-
- Students volunteering for an activity may only use the credit for one specific organization.
Hours, seminar attendance, projects (MPAC) must be completed by Monday, May 19 and reconciled with Georgia Wilder in person on or before Friday June 20, 2008. Students who have completed hours prior to May 21 may hand them in earlier. A year end evaluation “Reflections” is also due at this time.
