Welcome to Oakwood Hospital & Medical Center!

Oakwood Hospital & Medical Center-Dearborn has 615 beds and is a full-service teaching hospital, as well as the tertiary center for the Oakwood Healthcare System.

Oakwood offers the following services: 24-hour emergency care; general medicine and surgery; outpatient surgery; physical medicine and rehabilitation; and cardiology, cancer, geriatric, and women and children’s health services. Oakwood also offers state-of-the-art Intensive Care and Coronary Care units.

Diagnostic and treatment tools available include Cardiac Doppler, Echocardiogram, Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Lithotripsy, EKG Stress Thallium, Linear Accelerator, and Laser Surgery.

Oakwood Hospital and Medical Center’s Department of Education has almost 50 full-time faculty members. In addition, we have more than 500 voluntary attending physicians who participate in our teaching programs.

Badges

Each student will be assigned a badge that will identify them as a student and will also allow access to parking. Students are required to wear their I.D. badges at all times. Students are to identify themselves, as medical students, to patients and hospital staff.

Parking

Student parking is available in the employee lot and employee structure, which are located behind the parking structure. There are several entrances to the employee lots/structure. Scan the parking badge through the reader and the parking gate will lift up. Generally, the gates are open during 7:30 - 8:00 a.m. All student badges will work in any gate within the employee lots. Contact the Medical Student Education Coordinator if you are having a problem with the badge at (313) 593-7872.

On-Call Rooms

On-call rooms are located on the 10th floor. The combination to the on-call area is 1523. The on-call rooms are labeled, as such, and are unlocked, therefore, you do not need a key.

Lockers

Locker assignments are given to you with your registration packet. You will be assigned to a locker with at least one other student.

Meal tokens

Meal tokens are distributed an allotment of meal tokens which coincide with the number of nights that they will be on-call. The meal tokens are worth $ 3.00 and can be used in the main cafeteria only.

Lectures

Students rotating in Internal Medicine, Cardiology, CCU, ICU, and Infectious Disease are required to attend the noon Internal Medicine lectures. The student is responsible for following the Internal Medicine Conference Schedule each day.

Pagers

Pagers are supplied to all students except those doing a Radiology rotation. A refundable $35.00 deposit is required.
