Harry Weitz, MD, says "I am retired and tired at 90 years of age!"

1944

Harold Singer, MD, says he is enjoying retirement and "bowling several times a week with my highest average in the last two years."

1948

Robert Copeland, MD, retired in good health in October, 1998. He now consults and provides expert witness testimony. He enjoys traveling, bridge, golf and calligraphy.

Norman King, MD, was a guest lecturer at the Sapporo Medical School in Japan.

1952

William Kutsche, MD, has retired from active practice.

William Rush, MD, has retired as vice president and medical director at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Florida. He is now consulting for various drug companies and hospital groups.

Kouichi Tanaka, MD, received a Distinguished Service Award from the UCLA Medical Alumni Association.

1954

Robert Borchak, MD, is president-elect of the Wayne County Medical Society, 1999.

Richard Dykewicz, MD, retired in 1996.

William McAlister, MD, is professor of radiology and pediatrics at the Washington University School of Medicine and radiologist-in-chief at St. Louis Children’s Hospital.

Abner Ragins, MD, retired from clinical practice in 1999.

1956

Gaylord Alexander, MD, joined Henry Ford Health System as a senior staff anesthesiologist. He is board certified in anesthesiology with a specialty in pain management.

Joel Barkoff, MD, is in practice at Albuquerque Dermatology Associates in Albuquerque N.M.

Gregory Cross, MD, retired as a captain of the U.S. Navy Medical Corps in 1983. In 1999, he retired from his position as medical director at Maryview Medical Center in Portsmouth, Va.

1958

Marshall Blondy, MD, is on the board of the Michigan Partnership to Prevent Gun Violence.

Julius Combs, MD, retired in August, 1998.

1959

Robert Eggleston, MD, has been retired for five years, "is enjoying the companionship of his wife and family, exercising daily, and studying the internet."

1960

Nanette Jagnow, MD, and her husband are retired and recently moved to an apartment near Beaumont Hospital. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy.

1961

Monica Hoerauf, MD, retired from the department of medicine at Henry Ford Hospital where she had been on staff since 1965.

1964

Mark Cohen, MD, is semi-retired from Kaiser-Permanente.

1966

Lester Kalisher, MD, was recently listed in Woodward & White’s "Best Doctors in America." He also published three journal articles this year.

1968

Daniel Bernstein, MD, was appointed to the professional advisory committee of the State Commission for the Blind.

1969

Michael Dubriwny, MD, is medical director of managed behavioral care services at Laureate Hospital in Tulsa, Okla.

Judith Tintinalli, MD, says the fifth edition of her book, "Emergency Medicine: A Comprehensive Study Guide," is the largest-selling emergency medicine textbook in the world and is available in foreign languages.

1970

James Goodrich, MD, has been certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine as a specialist in occupational medicine.

1972

John Davis, MD, moved from Cornell to the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, where he was promoted to professor of surgery and site program director at the Jersey Shore Medical Center.

H. Jay Zeskind, MD, has been named a fellow of the American College of Radiology. He lives in West Bloomfield, Mich.

1973

Steven Crane, MD, has been appointed chief of staff at St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, Mich. for the period, 1999-2002.

Leroy Vaughn, MD, is working to earn an MBA from the George L. Graziadio School of Business and Management at Pepperdine University. He currently works at the Eye Care for Diabetics Medical Group in Inglewood, Calif.

1974

Howard Beckman, MD, got a new job as medical director at the Rochester Individual Practice Association. He is also clinical professor of internal medicine and family medicine at the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry.

1977

Stuart Baine, MD, lives in Boca Raton, Fla.

Edward Bujold, MD, is president of the Physician Hospital Organization at Valdese Hospital in N.C. and he is on the board of Grace/Valdese Hospital merger. He also published two books: "An Odyssey of Primary Care Research" and "The Fifteen Minute Office Practice Manager."

Bruce Deschere, MD, is president-elect of the Medical Alumni Association and is principal investigator on a GME Innovations grant from the State of Michigan. He also serves on the board of directors for the Detroit Skating Club.

Bernard Greenberg, MD, earned an MBA in December, 1999.

Mark Kolins, MD, is president of the Oakland County Medical Society.

1978

Jane Pettinga, MD, was named director of William Beaumont Hospital’s Comprehensive Breast Care Center. She completed her residency in breast cancer surgery at Beaumont in 1983.

Harvey White, MD, is chairman of the board for the Heart Hospital of New Mexico.

1979

Sheldon Fineman, MD, is president of the Virginia Beach Medical Society.

1980

Ronald Dubin, MD, competed in the 1999 New York Marathon in November, 1999, and has been running for less than two years. He is in full-time practice in orthopaedic surgery in Middlesboro, Ky. He is married to JoAnn (Schmitting) Dubin, a former ICU nurse from 10-Webber South at Harper Hospital, and they have four children.

Edward Lake, MD, was named Health Care Provider of the Year of Branch County for 1998.

Paula Ravin, MD, has been promoted to associate professor of neurology at U Mass, where she is director of the Movement Disorders Fellowship Program.

Dr. Thomas Simmer, ‘80, has been named vice president of medical affairs and corporate medical director for Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.

1981

Philip Garrod, MD, practices emergency medicine and is the regional medical director for Premier Healthcare of Arizona, and also the commercial and Medicare HMO administrator for Comprehensive AHCCCS Plan (a state-funded managed care plan serving developmentally disabled persons living in Northern Arizona).

Randy Pearson, MD, is in his fifth year as the lead team physician for the Michigan State Spartans’ football program and also directs the MSU/St. Lawrence Hospital Family Practice Residency program. He is also serving as a physician for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney, Australia.

Bruce Sangeorzan, MD, says he is "older, fatter, balder."

1982

Eileen Murphy, MD, has been named chief of the medical staff at the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago for the year 1999-2000.

Gary Seabrook, MD, was promoted to professor of surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin. He presented a scientific exhibit on "Microbial Particulates in the Operating Room Environment" at the American College of Surgeons.

1983

David Baumgartner, MD, is vice president of medical affairs at St. Mary’s Mercy Medical Center in Grand Rapids, Mich.

Marla Conger, MD, is chief of staff at Columbia Medical Center of Lewisville, Texas.

1984

Ronald Adler, MD, has been appointed professor of radiology at the Weil School of Medicine, Cornell University.

John Davis, MD, earned an MBA from Kennesaw State University in 1998.

Martin Ottolini, MD, is director of the pediatric infectious disease fellowship at the Uniformed Services University in Bethesda, Md.

1985

Brad Hall, MD, married Connie Hall in 1998 and gained two new stepchildren: Kyle (15) and Lauren (12).

1986

Lawrence Blase, MD, was named F.A.C.P. in 1998 and became an associate clinical professor of internal medicine at Wayne State University in 1999.

Rudolph Menchi, MD, has joined St. Clair Specialty Physicians.

1987

Katherine Gorham, MD, says, "I have accepted my calling into the ministry." She is the youth minister at Pilgrim Baptist Church in Rockford, Ill., and is attending seminary school through Bethel Seminary in St. Paul, Minn. She has also resumed private practice.

William Kane, MD, is the first plastic and reconstructive surgeon to join the medical staff of Northern Michigan Hospital. He practiced for two years in Grand Rapids, Mich, and 10 years at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. His wife, Laurie, is a board-certified endocrinologist and internist in Petoskey, MI.

Jay Mitchell, MD, is treasurer of the Michigan Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Karen Mitchell, MD, is president of the Michigan Academy of Family Physicians and is also on the academy’s membership committee.

Gary Ritten, MD, has joined the medical staff at McLaren Community Medical Center in Lapeer, Mich. Previously, he had been practicing obstetrics-gynecology for 10 years with Henry Ford Health System and the Detroit Medical Center.

1988

Alvise Bernabei, MD, is returning to Detroit to be the director of heart and lung transplantation and of thoracic aortic surgery at Henry Ford Hospital.

Daniel Dubay, MD, and Linda (Sokolowski) Dubay, MD, had their third child, Alexander. Daniel is clinical professor at the University of Michigan. Linda is chief of general surgery at Providence Hospital in Southfield, Mich.

Thomas Rupp, MD, has joined the Carolina Hospital System and is board-certified in internal medicine and gastroenterology.

1989

Adam Perrin, MD, has been elected a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians. He earned a Certificate of Added Qualification in sports medicine, and was appointed health director in his hometown of Middlefield, Conn.

Steven Shanbom, MD, is working with Henry Spiro in Berkley, Mich. He works in ophthalmology and specializes in LASIK and cataract surgery.

1990

Denise Au, MD, married William Brooks Keenan in September, 1998. They are expecting their first baby.

Richard Carr, MD, has been in private practice since 1996. He specializes in laser and cosmetic facial surgery, reconstruction of traumatic facial injuries, and resection/reconstructive surgery for tumors of the head and neck region. He did residency training at the Detroit Medical Center and a fellowship at the University of Indiana. His is now an associate professor of otolaryngology at Wayne State University.

Patrick Friedli, MD, and his wife, Patti, live in Traverse City, Mich., with their sons: Luke, Joe and Nick. Pat often does television spots for the local news.

William Goldstein, MD, relocated his ophthalmology practice to Shelby Township, Mich. He specializes in general family care, including lasik, cataracts, diabetes and glaucoma.

Christopher Kottke, MD, was in the Navy for six years, and is now in a general pediatric practice in Brighton, Mich. He is married to Maria and has three children.

Mark Rodkey, MD, is director of the pediatric emergency department at Hillcrest Hospital in Mayfield Heights, Ohio. He is also director of the pediatric emergency medicine fellowship at the Children’s Hospital in Ohio, and he is married to Greta.

Tari Stull, MD, moved her general surgery practice from Tecumseh, Mich. to Brighton/Howell. Her primary hospital is now McPherson in Howell.

Johnnie Woodson, MD, and his wife, Linda, live in Las Vegas with their three children: Johnnie III, Mark and Monique. Their practice, Woodson Dermatology, is comprised of seven physicians specializing in general dermatology, dermatologic surgery and allergy. Their new 20,000 square-foot medical-surgical facility was completed in October, 1999.

1991

Jon Kroeze, MD, and Kathy had their third child on August 1, 1999. Sara Nichile was born seven weeks early at 4 pounds, 15 ounces, and stayed in the NICU for 14 days. She is now doing fine, along with her sister Kari (3 years) and brother Daniel (20 months).

Kevin Packman, MD, practices general and vascular surgery in Milwaukee, Wis.

John Pedersen, MD, has joined the medical staff of Wadsworth-Rittman Hospital in Ohio. He is a board-certified plastic surgery specialist.

Steven Sanford, MD, welcomed the birth of his second son, Ryan Steven, on June 15, 1999, in Charlotte, N.C.

1992

Pilar Hewitt Buerk, MD, finished her pediatrics residency in 1995 and now works part-time for a group in Portland, Ore. She married Todd during residency and they now have two children: Katie (3 years) and Riley (3 months). "Both currently sleep through the night. Does life get any better?" she asks.

Stephen Meyer, MD, joined the staff of St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Joplin, Mo. He specializes in cardiovascular surgery and works in association with Heart Care and Surgical Associates, Inc.

Chris Stroud, MD, just completed two fellowships: one in sports medicine and one in foot/ankle. He and his family are moving to Baltimore this year to begin a practice. He has two children: Michael and Amy.

1993

Timothy Doerr, MD, is in the middle of a fellowship year at the University of Michigan, working in head and neck reconstruction and facial plastics. He also had his third child, Joseph Patrick, in May of 1999.

Saib Gappy, MD, is working practicing general internal medicine and working at the VA Medical Center in Detroit.

1994

Eric Birdwell, MD, and his wife, Shelli, are finishing language training so they can take their sons, David (3) and Daniel (6), to do humanitarian work in central Asia. They ask classmates to keep in touch at: FourDaBirds@Compuserve.com.

Joe Chomchai, MD, joined the Central Michigan Healthcare System in Mt. Pleasant, MI, as an ear, nose and throat specialist. He resides in Mt. Pleasant with his wife Robin and two sons, Dominic and Ryan.

Felix Chukwudelunzu, MD, has joined Luther Hospital and Midelfort Clinic in Wisconsin, where he specializes in diagnosis and treatment of stroke and related conditions.

Dennis Hurst, MD, works at a large community emergency department in Ft. Worth, Texas. He has been married for a year and a half, and is the proud owner of a 220-pound dog Vladimir.

Stephanie Juister-Duggan, MD, had a baby daughter, Danielle, in August, 1999, and says she "never knew life could be so good!"

Maria Livieratos, MD, completed a family practice residency at Troy Beaumont and is currently employed by Genesys Regional Medical Health Systems. She has opened a private practice in Clarkston, Mich. and looks forward to the new challenges it brings.

Alan Woronoff, MD, completed a CT/MRI/ultrasound fellowship at Johns Hopkins and began private practice at Abington Memorial Hospital in Pennsylvania. He and Shira recently celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary.

1995

Christine Adamick, MD, is chief resident in the department of dermatology at the University of Cincinnati. Afterwards, she will begin a private practice in Groose Pointe Woods, Mich. at Eastside Dermatology, where she will be affilated with St. John and Bon Secours Hospitals. She is married to Chris Castellani.

Leland Babitch, MD, was named director of the information systems committee at the Unity Medical Group in St. Louis. He also began the Johns Hopkins Business of Medicine program.

David Jordahl, MD, and his wife, Jennifer Jordahl, RN, have joined Family Doctors of Vicksburg in Vicksburg, Mich.

Piero Simone, MD, has opened an ophthalmology practice in Warren, Mich.

1996

Cynthia Baetz, MD, is an associate with Chelsea Family Physicians in Chelsea, Mich.

Marcus Baratian, MD, has joined Robinson Health Affiliates and he will soon be opening a pediatric practice in Streetsboro, Ohio.

Ann Kulik, MD, finished family practice at Providence Hospital in July, 1999, and is now employed by Moses Cone-LeBauer Health Care.

Michael Owczarzak, MD, has joined the St. John River District Hospital Family Practice Office in Richmond, Mich.

Darren Pipp, MD, joined the medical staff at the Richland Medical Center in Wisconsin and will be providing emergency services at the Richland Hospital. Prior to that, he was an emergency room physician at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Tennessee. Michele Pipp, MD, ‘96, is also a physician and is completing an oncology program at UW Hospital in Madison, WI.

Thad Rathkamp, MD, has joined the Covenant HealthCare System in Bay City, Mich., where he is establishing a family practice.

Doug Spence, MD, is working as a family physician with the Cadillac Family Physicians in Cadillac, Mich.

1997

Laura Piippo, MD, married Bryan Meda in September of 1998.

1998

Howard Belkin, MD, is a co-investigator on a grant from the Richard J. Barber Award for Interdisciplinary Legal Research through the Wayne State University Center for Legal Studies to investigate the implications of physician decision-making in the treatment of infertile couples. He has also been co-author on two chapers in a book entitled, "Fetal Medicine: The Clinical Care of the Fetus As a Patient." He is currently a resident in WSU’s department of psychiatry and behavioral neurosciences.

Leonard Buccellato, MD, married Dr. Ommar Hza on August 21, 1999.

Diane Peterson, MD, is a second-year ob/gyn resident at the Washington University School of Medicine and the Barnes Hospital.
