Artistic flair leads to hair restoration  

 

Dr. Feldman, '81, was a family physician before he opened a hair transplant center.

 

Dr. Cary Feldman has a unique canvas to show off his artistic talents – a scalp.

Feldman, 48, is a medical doctor who specializes in hair transplants. He opened Hair Transplant Center of Southeast Michigan in downtown Rochester, Mich., in April.

“I was an art major (at Wayne State University) before going to medical school,” he said. “Hair restoration combines the wonderful world of art with the scientific side of medicine. You could say I found my niche.”

Such a background comes in handy when choosing between a graph with one to four hair follicles or six to eight. “Part of the artistry is deciding what graph size is most appropriate for the patient’s goals,” he said. “Some doctors are purists and only do one way. I do it both ways based on the patient’s goal.”

He is so concerned about esthetics that even his center’s location had to have artistic flair. The office building … resembles a castle with a fountain in the center courtyard. …

Feldman, a former family physician, opened his own transplant center after recognizing a need for a more personal approach to hair restoration.

He’s worked at various facilities since 1993 where a salesperson, rather than a physician, consults with patients to determine what procedure will be performed.

“People deserve personal care,” he said. “A physician needs to be a patient’s advocate.” …
