Canady, MD, professor of neurosurgery, was honored with a Legacy Award from
the Brain Association of Michigan. Yvonne
Friday, MD, assistant professor of pediatrics, was one of 10 African
Americans featured in a Detroit Free Press special section called
“Worthy of Watching in 2000.” It honored Dr. Friday for her work as medical
director for the Wayne County Juvenile Detention Facility. Morris
Goodman, PhD, professor of anatomy and cell biology, is being honored at the
first annual Mary Webber Parker Distinguished Symposium, which will focus on
“Reconstructing Human Evolution in the Age of Genomic Exploration.” David
Kessel, PhD, professor of pharmacology, has received Wayne State
University’s Distinguished Graduate Faculty Award. Diane
Levine, MD, assistant professor of internal medicine, has been selected by
students to receive Wayne State University’s Outstanding Clinical Faculty
Award. This is the fifth consecutive year that she received the award, which
honors voluntary faculty members who provide excellent clinical teaching
experiences. Ananda
Prasad, MD, PhD, professor of internal medicine, has been granted
“mastership” from the American College of Physicians-American Society of
Internal Medicine for his distinguished contributions to internal medicine. Charles Whitten, MD, associate dean emeritus for special programs, received the Distinguished Alumni Award during Children’s Hospital of Michigan’s 43rd annual Clinic Days. He also was honored with the first Margaret Couzens-Slattery Lecture, from the Sickle Cell Division of the National Institutes of Health.
