1939
T. Stewart Hamilton, MD, was profiled in Modern Healthcare, February 8, 1999. The article highlights Dr. Hamilton’s many contributions to healthcare, including testifying before Congress on behalf of the AHA in support of the creation of Medicare and Medicaid in the 1960s.

1945
Jean Wright, MD, is vice president of medical management at Egleston Children’s Hospital at Emory.

1946
Morris Lipnik, MD, is practicing dermatology with the North Collier Hospital Physicians in Florida.

1949
A.B. Solomon, MD, was recently honored for 40 years of membership in the American Academy of Family Physicians.

1952
Kouichi Tanaka, MD, was named professor emeritus of medicine at UCLA School of Medicine. In April, 1998, Dr. Tanaka became Master of the American College of Physicians. The Kouichi R. Tanaka Distinguished Teaching Award was established in the department of medicine at the Harbon-UCLA Medical Center.

1957
David Rosenzwig, MD,
was named professor emeritus of medicine at the Medical College of Wisconsin.

1962
John Bradfield, MD, retired from active ob/gyn practice and serves as a surgical assistant at Cottage Hospital in Grosse Pointe Farms (when he’s not in NH, FL, or traveling). He says he enjoys seeing such great advances in general surgery since he was an intern!

1965
Noah Shaw, MD, was promoted to clinical professor of psychiatry at New York University Medical School. He is chairing a section on child and adolescent analysis at the NYU Psychiatry Institute, and he published "A Boy in Analysis" in the Journal of Clinical Psychoanalysis.

1967
Richard Luros, MD, completed a Master of Public Health degree from UCLA this past June.

1968
David Barrett, MD, has been named chief executive of the Lahey Clinic in Burlington, Massachusetts.

Larry Bernstein, MD, was the recipient of the Labbe/Garry Award of the nutrition division of the American Association for Clinical Chemistry in 1998.

Lawrence Loewenthal, MD, received the 1997 Community Service Award from the Michigan State Medical Socity for co-founding Project Vision, which provides medical eye services to underserved populations in Romania, Israel and the Ukraine.

1969
Robert Foster, MD, who is a hand surgeon with a Colorado Springs orthopaedic group, was included in the Woodward & White publication, Best Doctors in America.

1971
Michael Sandler, MD, is a member of hte board of directors of the Michigan State Medical Society and is an alternate delegate from Michigan to the AMA.

1973
Paul Mitchell, MD, is on staff at the Cleveland Clinic, Naples, Fla., specializing in gastroenterology, colon cancer, preventive medicine, cardiovascular disease and hypertension.

1975
William Holden, MD, has been named vice president of medical affairs at St. Mary’s Hospital in Saginaw, MI.

Randall Rasmussen, MD, published "The Interventional Nephrologist" in Contemporary Dialysis & Nephrology in June, 1998.

1977
Frederick Campbell, MD, left academic practice in Philadelphia after 17 years and returned to Michigan to establish a private anesthesiology practice at the Munson Medical Center.

Bruce Deschere, MD, has been appointed principal investigator for the Managed Care Innovations grant at the WSU School of Medicine.

1978
Jean Wright, MD, is vice president of medical management at Egleston Children's Hospital at Emory.

1979
Donald Albrecht, MD, has been named vice chief of staff at West Shore Hospital in Manistee, Michigan.

Janice Alexander, MD, was honored as Ob/Gyn Faculty Member of the Year by her 1998 residents. She was also voted best obstetrician in Milwaukee by her patients.

William Cox, MD, works as a radiologist for Norton Sound Regional Hospital in Nome, Alaska. Dr. Cox writes, "Nome is a hub for 15 surrounding villages scattered over an area the size of Ohio. Nome is on the Bering Sea coast of northwestern Alaska, just south of the Arctic Circle and only 164 miles from the Russian coast!"

Susan Kalia, MD, has joined a practice in Delmar, NY. The practice is an affiliate of Community Care Physicians and Dr. Kalia is specializing in adult and adolescent medicine.

1980
Joan Abele, MD, is the first woman president of the Utah Medical Association. She is happy to be practicing cardiac anesthesia at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake.

Bruce Polsky, MD, has been appointed chief of the division of infectious diseases in the department of medicine at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital Center.

1981
Raphael Bloomgarden, MD, has been elected secretary-treasurer of the medical staff at Chestnut Hill Hospital in Pennsylvania.

1982
Sadeer Hannush, MD, received a 1998 Honor Award for Distinguished Service from the American Academy of Ophthalmology.

Thomas Morgan, MD, and his wife Robin Morgan, MD, were recently included in the Woodward & White publication, Best Doctors in America. Dr. Thomas Morgan is in private practice in Colorado Springs where he specializes in non-operative spine care, electromyography, pain management and sports medicine.

1983
Denise Graham, MD, is chief of staff and clinical director (east division) at Eastern Louisiana Mental Health System. She is also chiar of the psychiatry department at Earl K. Long Hospital, Louisiana State University Health Care Services.

Victoria Macki, MD, has joined a small practice group in central WA State.

Leon Mead, MD, is practicing orthopedic surgery with Gulfcoast Orthopedic Specialists, L.L.P., in Naples, Florida.

Robert Veneri, MD, is on staff at Mt. Clemens General Hospital and practices with G.I. Medicine Associates of St. Clair Shores, specializing in internal medicine, gastroenterology and liver disease. He was recently highlighted in the Macomb Daily.

1984
Kenneth McNamee, MD, was elected to a three-year term on the Mercy Memorial Hospital board of directors in Michigan.

1985
Kenneth Abbott, MD, is presently serving in the rank of Lieutenant Colonel as the chief of hematology/oncology at Malcom Grow Medical Center, Andrews Air Force Base, Maryland. He is also an assistant professor of medicine at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. He says, "DC is a nice area (despite all the ruckus); Shirley and I are contemplating sticking around in our post-Air Force life."

Sudhanshu Patel, MD, is on the medical staff at Mt. Clemens General Hospital and practices with G.I. Medicine Associates of St. Clair Shores. Dr. Patel is a member of the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the American College of Gastroenterology. He was recently highlighted in the Macomb Daily.

1986
Pete Garcia, MD, has been named a member of the executive committee at Mercy Hospital in Florida.

Ramona Marsh, MD, has joined the medical staff at GlenOaks Hospital in Illinois.

1987
Jay Mitchell, MD, is treasurer for the Michigan chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics.

Karen Mitchell, MD, is president-elect of the Michigan Academy of Family Physicians.

1988
Richard Hood, MD, is practicing pain managment and anesthesiology in Naples and Ft. Myers, Florida.

Scott VanderHill, MD, is a family practice physician with Mecosta County General Hospital in Big Rapids, MI.

1989
Kathleen Lavigne, MD, has joined the MidMichigan Physicians Group in Mount Pleasant, MI, where she is a staff psychiatrist.

Richard Schwartz, MD, has a new position as director of the emergency medicine residency program at the Medical College of Georgia.

1990
Carlos Perez, MD, started a hospitalist position at Sharp Memorial Hospital in September, 1998, after 5 years of primary care outpatient internal medicine practice at Sharp Rees-Stealy in San Diego.

1991
AnneMarie Borowski-McCarren, MD, is a partner of Women-to-Women. She resides in Grosse Pointe with her husband and one-year old son, R.J. She is expecting her second child in May.

Shere Chaffin, MD, married John R. Oesterle, MD. Both are employed by Physician Anesthesia Service, a private practice group of Sparrow Hospital in Lansing. They reside in East Lansing.

Gregory Crawford, MD, has formed a new emergency medicine group in Bakersfield, Calif. Dr. Crawford and his wife Julie have two daughters--Emily and Abigail. He writes, "I take my two-year old to Disneyland so often that I am using my second year pass...If only Roy Burzenski lived close enough, I would make him a Disney junkie, too."

Rose Demczuk, MD, became board certified in adult and child psychiatry and has been practicing in Michigan in an outpatient setting on a part-time basis. She has two daughters: Alexa, 2, and Tessa, two months.

Aashish Deshpande, MD, says he is doing well in South Bend, Ind. He joined a private practice in physical medicine and rehabilitation. He and his wife, Sonali, celebrated five years of marriage in December and their daughter, Samsara, celebrated her first birthday in March. He says, "Leaving Detroit was difficult (no joke, I've been there my whole life!). But we're not so far away."

John Hart, MD, is practicing ophthalmology in West Bloomfield. His wife Kim Hart, MD, (Class of 1993) works at The Detroit Medical Center in radiation oncology. Their son, John Jacob, was born in June, 1998.

Kathy Rheaume, MD, moved her practice to Chesterfield, Mich. She is a solo practitioner in family practice with low-risk obstetrics. Dr. Rheaume says she is the grandmother of two grandsons, Tyler and Justin.

Steven Sanford, MD, is a full-time hand surgeon at the Carolina Hand Center in Charlotte, N.C. He is expecting his second child in June, 1999.

Steven Saxe, MD, joined the Eye Care Specialists of Cape Girardeali in Missouri.

1992
Bruce Daniel, MD, finished a family practice residency in 1995 at Altoana, Pa., and joined an emergency medicine group in Vernal, Utah (Dinosaur Land!). He currently heads the ER department. Dr. Daniel and his wife Shelly have 5 children. He states, "We have survived undergrad, med school, residency and three years of practice together Now we are building our first house - wish us luck."

Jay Fisher, MD, has exciting news. He and his wife Lisa had a baby boy on December 30, 1998! His name is Benjamin Zachary.

Gerald Fulton, MD, says "life is good!" He has fully recovered from a snowmobile accident and is now in a busy family practice with OB near Grand Blanc, Mich. You can keep in touch at Docfulton@aol.com.

Rakesh Narayan, MD, is doing well as a partner in private practice anesthesiology outside of Raleigh, N.C.

Michael Stender, MD, completed his hematology/oncology fellowship at Indiana University and joined Hematology Oncology Consultants at William Beaumont Hospital in Troy, Mich.

James Valice, MD, is practicing at the Cataract & Laser Eye Care Center in Macomb County, MI.

1993
Scott Anderson, MD, joined the staff at Family Doctors of Howard, part of the Bellin Medical Group in Wisconsin.

Steven Fite, MD, is practicing at the Cataract & Laser Eye Care Center in Macomb County, MI.

Tushar Patel, MD, is medical student director in the department of emergency medicine at St. John Hospital and Medical Center.

1994
Charisse Gencyuz, MD, has joined the medical staff of St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit.

Craig Joseph, MD, completed a residency in pediatrics at Children’s Hospital of Michigan and is now enjoying private practice in Warren, Mich. He is the father of Hannah and is expecting another child soon. You can email Dr. Joseph at craigjoseph@aol.com.

John Lasak, MD, married Leslie in May. Dr. Lasak is finishing his otolaryngology residency at Thomas Jefferson University, before starting a two-year fellowship at Ohio State University.

Payman Yousefzadeh, MD, has started a private practice in Los Angeles, Calif.

1995
Maher George Al-Sheikh, MD, opened a family practice office in Okemos, MI.

Sue Bidigare, MD, just completed her residency and accepted a faculty position at St. John Health System - Family Practice.

Ted Glynn, MD, is currently finishing PGY-4 as chief resident in emergency medicine at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, Texas. His wife, Rosemarie, is a flight nurse with AirLife San Antonio, and the two of them have a daughter, Jessica, who was born in June, 1998.

Michael Lim, MD, completed his internal medicine residency and is now serving as chief medical resident at Indiana University. He will return to Michigan in July to begin a cardiology fellowship at the University of Michigan.

Renee Nilan, MD, is working on the emergency medicine staff at Gratiot Community Hospital in Alma, Mich. She wishes to thank John Dykstra for introducting her to Robert Sparling whom she will marry in September. Rob works as a portfolio manager at Dow Chemical Company. She writes, "We are having fun getting used to the freedom of my post-residency life."

Jill Peterson, MD, joined a group practice in Lake Orion after completing her family practice residency at Troy Beaumont Hospital. She says, "I am happy to be working only two days a week in the office so I can spend more time with my two girls. We are expecting our third in May."

Donna Smith, MD, is practicing occupational and environmental medicine at Henry Ford Health System. Her sons are now 3 and 13 years old, and it seems her medical school days were easier and carefree. She hopes to begin kick boxing and painting soon.

Caroline Vitale, MD, moved to New Jersey (just outside of New York City) after completing her residency in internal medicine in Rochester, N.Y. She is completing her first year in a geriatrics fellowship. Dr. Vitale says she is enjoying the city and plans to stay in the New York area for now, as her significant other, Michael, teaches math at a university there. 1996
David McClary, MD, won "Best Presentation of Conference" for his presentation on "Gay Men’s Health Maintenance" at the Society for Teachers of Family Medicine northeast regional conference in October, 1998.
