
Susan Adelman, MD, associate professor of surgery, has been elected to the American Medical Association Board of Trustees.
Seemant Chaturvedi, MD, assistant professor of neurology, has been appointed to the executive committee for the American Academy of Neurology section on stroke and vascular neurology. He also made two presentations to the American Academy of Neurology. They were entitled, "Circadian Variation in Ischemic Stroke Subtypes" and "PET Study of Serotonin Synthesis in Patients with Migraine-Related Stroke. He also made two presentations at the European Stroke Conference in Edinburgh, Scotland. Those presentations were "Stroke in Women Taking DepoProvera Contraception" and "Activated Protein C Resistance in Young African Americans with Stroke."
Harry Chugani, MD, professor of pediatrics, neurology and radiology, was an invited speaker at a conference entitled "The First Years Last Forever: Business Leaders Forum on Early Childhood Development" held in July.

Mark Evans, MD, professor and vice-chief of ob/gyn, and professor in pathology and the Center for Molecular Medicine and Genetics, organized a Nobel Foundation Mini Symposium on Fetal Medicine in Stockholm, Sweden.
Kenneth Ginsburg, MD, associate professor of obstetrics and gynecology, has been chosen to participate in the first class of the Association of Professor of Gynecology and Obstetrics (APGO) and Solvay Pharmaceuticals Educational Scholars Development Program. The 15-month program is designed to help ob/gyn professors teach womens health more effectively.
Alan Gruskin, MD, professor and chair of pediatrics, created the International Pediatric Chairs Association which held its first annual meeting in Amsterdam in August. In addition, Dr. Gruskin was asked by the American Academy of Pediatrics to be on the founding editorial board of its newest publication, Pediatric Grand Rounds.

This National Institutes of Health-sponsored conference focused on new research into cerebrovascular disease. Dr. Maiese was also selected as a Michigan University Faculty Investigator representative to participate in a series of forums hosted by Governor John Engler and the Kellogg and Dow Foundations to help formulate and maintain university and industry partnerships in the state of Michigan.
