L. Jerome Fink, MD, was named the Kiwanian of the Year by the Virginia Beach Kiwanis Club. He is also president of the Self Help for the Hard of Hearing group and a docent at the Virginia Beach Marine Science Museum.

 

1948

John Briggs, MD, of Amherst, MA, is looking forward to attending his 50th reunion at the School of Medicine next May.

 

Richard Pollard, MD, of Green Valley, AZ, is the class agent for the class of 1948.

 

1953

Henry Burko, MD, of Milwaukee, WI, retired "after 17 years of academics and 21 years of private practice."

 

1954

Richard Cecconi, Sr., MD, of Iron Mountain, MI, has been enjoying retirement since 1987.

 

1956

Martin Trotsky, MD, of West Bloomfield, MI, retired last summer and returned to Michigan from Lincoln, NE.

 

1957

Henry J. Barsch, MD, of Marquette, MI, was named 1997 Physician of the Year by the Michigan Hospital Association for establishing a data base for patients across the upper peninsula of Michigan, and for establishing rural examining sites for Marquette Hospital. Dr. Barsch is a retired urologist.

 

1960

Thomas Davis, MD, of Scottsdale, AZ, is the associate medical director for quality management at Human Healthplans, Inc. in Phoenix.

 

John Manis, MD, of Larkspur, CA, is president of the Marin Medical Society for the 1997/98 term and serves on the board of directors of the Buck Center for Research in Aging.

 

1962

Robert Abramovitz, MD, of New York, NY, is the chief psychiatrist for the largest not-for-profit mental health/social service agency in New York City. In January, Dr. Abramovitz will also become director of the newly established Jewish Board of Family and Children’s Services Traumatic Stress Center.

 

1965

Jerome Helman, MD, practices in Chicago in a gastroenterology and preventive medicine/wellness program. He writes that he is "staying healthy in spite of managed care."

 

Bruce Relyea, MD, of Plymouth, MI, is working for the Michigan Department of Corrections at the Duane L. Waters Hospital in Jackson.

 

1968

Lawrence Loewenthal, MD, was awarded the 1997 Community Service Award from the Macomb County Medical Society.

 

1970

Jason Bodzin, MD, of Southfield, MI, is president of the Academy of Surgery of Detroit, and director of the DMC/Sinai Inflammatory Bowel Disease Center.

 

Michael Perry, MD, of Columbia, MO, edited the Chemotherapy Source Book, 2nd Ed. and the Comprehensive Textbook of Thoriacic Oncology, with 1970 alumnus Joe Aisner for Williams and Wilkins.

 

1971

Carolyn Bird, MD, MPH, of Pontiac, MI, is chief of medical services for the Oakland County Health Division. She was recently featured in an article in the Oakland Press.

 

1973

Albee Budnitz, MD, of Nashua, NH, received a Robert Woods Johnson grant for community anti-tobacco programs and was recently honored with the Robert Kerr Award of the American Lung Association of New Hampshire. Dr. Budnitz is serving as a delegate-at-large for the NH Medical Society Executive Committee and is on the Board of Governors at the So. Region Lakey Hitchcock Clinic.

 

1974

Marc Citron, MD, of Great Neck, NY, has been promoted to professor of medicine at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.

 

1975

Allan Collins, MD, Wayzata, MN, is associate professor of medicine at the University of Minnesota School of Medicine.

 

1976

James Andonian, MD, has become medical director for medical services at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital Business Health Services in Ann Arbor. He is responsible for overall medical services as well as the expansion of its occupational medicine program.

 

Oksana Baltarowich, MD, of Huntingdon Valley, PA, has been named associate director of international education at the Jefferson Ultrasound Research and Education Institute, Thomas Jefferson University in Philadelphia. She writes that she "will continue to devote much time and energy to my family, especially my three daughters, now ages 12, 13 and 15."

 

Steven Braff, MD, of Rochester, NY, was recently elected to the Board of the Clinical Magnetic Resonance Society.

 

Silas Norman, Jr., MD, of Okemos, MI, became the corporate medical director of United Correctional Managed Care, Inc. last fall.

 

1979

Harold Sauer, MD, of Okemos, MI, is interim chairperson of the department of obstetrics, gynecology and reproductive biology in the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University.

 

1980

Anne E. Missavage, MD, of Chesterfield, MO, became the associate director of the burn center at St. John’s Mercy Medical Center in St. Louis.

 

1981

William Fortin, MD, of Houghton, MI, is an emergency medicine physician with the Portage Medical Group at the Portage Hospital’s Emergency Department and Walk-In Care Staff. He and his wife, Cynthia, have three children.

 

Martin Lubetsky, MD, of Pittsburgh, PA, is director of the John Merck Program at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

 

Leslie Robb, MD, has joined the Marquette Internal Medicine Associates, P.C., in the Peninsula Medical Center. She is specializing in primary care internal medicine and is on staff at Marquette General Hospital. Dr. Robb and her husband, John Petrasky, MD, ‘83, have three daughters. Dr. Petrasky is the Delta-Menominee County Health Officer.

 

Stephen Ruby, MD, of Darien, IL, was elected president of the Chicago Pathology Society last spring.

 

Peter Traber, MD, has been appointed chairman of the department of medicine at the University of Pennsylvania Medical Center and Health System, where he is also the T. Grier Miller Professor of Medicine.

 

1983

Kevin McKown, MD, of Cordova, TN, is program director for the internal medicine residency program at the University of Tennessee, Memphis.

 

Michael Plaetta, MD, of Northville, MI, recently accepted the position of medical director for palliative geriatrics at the Hospice of Michigan.

 

1984

Ronald Adler, MD, of Ann Arbor, MI, was elected to Sigma Xi and the International Skeletal Society. He will also be joining the radiology faculty at the Hospital for Special Surgery, Cornell University School of Medicine.

 

Robert W. Snyder, MD, PhD, was recently promoted to full professor with tenure at the University of Arizona. He is chairman of the department of ophthalmology at the University of Arizona Health Sciences Center.

 

1985

David Bortel, MD, is an orthopaedic surgeon at the MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland. His areas of special interest include complex reconstruction of joints and sports injuries.

 

1986

Ronald Hunt, MD, of Fenton, MI, is associate director of the McLaran Medical Center family practice residency program.

 

1987

Fernanco Gomez, MD, of Holland, MI, is president of the Ottowa County Medical Society.

 

Jerry Ninia, MD, of E. Setauket, NY, presented a paper on thrombophilia and oral contraceptive use at the North American Society of Phlebology Annual Congress in Palm Desert last fall.

 

 

1988

Leslie Schutz, MD, is a specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation at Rehabilitation Associates of MidMichigan of the MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland. She returned to Michigan from North Dakota where she was medical director of the sports medicine and work injury programs at Trinity Medical Center.

 

1990

Michael Brusca, MD, of Oak Park, IL, is a fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. He became board certified in 1996.

 

Mary Wisely, MD, of South Boston, VA, is medical director of Berry Hill Nursing Home, attending physician at Twin Oaks and The Woodview facilities, and on staff at Medical and Surgical Associates. She is also with Halifax Regional where she is a member of the department of medicine and chairman of the continuing medical education committee. Dr. Wisely is a frequent speaker on preventive and geriatric medicine at local civic and professional organizations.

 

1991

Michael Chames, MD, of Jackson, MI, and his wife Mary Anne, recently welcomed new addition Nicholas to the family.

 

My Nguyen, MD, of Clarksville, TN, completed a radiation oncology residency and a fellowship in prostate impl antation and radiosurgery at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, prior to opening a private practice in Clarksville.

 

1992

Timothy Johnson, MD, of Ripon, WI, is an anesthesiologist with Community Health Network Anesthesia Services. He was recently featured in an article in the Princeton Times-Republic on innovative anesthesia used by CHN.

 

Michael MacKay, MD, is practicing with Orthopedic Surgeons of Oak Ridge at the Methodist Medical Center in Tennessee.

 

1993

Blake Bergeon, MD, is a specialist in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the MidMichigan Medical Center in Midland.

 

1994

Eric Birdwell, MD, formed a team of doctors to provide medical aide to a country in Central Asia, formerly part of the Soviet Union. Until they leave in 1998, he will continue working at a clinic operated by Ventura County in Moorpark, California. Dr. Birdwell was recently featured in an article in the Daily Californian. He and his wife, Shelli, have two sons.

 

Margit (Krenz) Chadwell, MD, of Grosse Pointe Park, MI, finished a family practice residency at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn where she was the 1996/97 chief resident and is now a faculty member. She and her husband, Ken, welcomed their first child, a baby boy, last July.

 

Scott Segel, MD, completed an internal medicine residency at Northwestern University in Chicago last June, and began an endocrinology fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. He and his wife, Amy, have a year-old daughter.

1997

John Ilagan, MD, of West Bloomfield, MI, is a research associate in the department of cancer immunology and AIDS at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute with a joint appointment as a pathology research fellow at Harvard Medical School.
