This special issue of scribe is dedicated to informing readers of the upcoming events to honor Irvin Reid, PhD, who was officially sworn in as the ninth president of Wayne State University in November, 1997. The inauguration ceremonies for Dr. Reid are currently underway and the entire WSU community is invited to participate. The inaugural ceremony will take place Friday, September 18, and will be marked by a week-long, university-wide celebration to be held September 14 - 20. The festivities include events sponsored by all 14 of WSUs schools and colleges, including the School of Medicine.
The medical school events, which include a visit from the US surgeon general and the announcement of a comprehensive diabetes center, are further outlined in this issue of scribe. We hope the medical schools faculty, staff, students, and alumni will join us in wishing Dr. Reid well and celebrating the growth and future of the School of Medicine and of Wayne State University.
