Dermatology Celebrates New Endowed Chair

Dr. Murakawa is the first recipient of the Hermann Pinkus Endowed Academic Chair in Dermatology.

Faculty, spouses and supporters of the Department of Dermatology and Syphilology gathered on December 11, 2001, at the Detroit Athletic Club to celebrate the establishment of the Hermann Pinkus Endowed Academic Chair in Dermatology. Those attending also welcomed and congratulated Dr. George Murakawa, chair of dermatology, as the first recipient of the endowed chair.

Departmental success is celebrated by Harriet Murff and Dr. Brett Krasner.

The celebration featured cocktails followed by a brief program that began with congratulatory remarks by Provost Charles Bantz and greetings from Wayne State University President Irvin Reid. School of Medicine Dean John Crissman congratulated those who contributed their efforts and resources to the establishment of the Hermann Pinkus endowed chair, which achieved its goal of $1.2 million.

Dr. and Mrs. Iacobelli congratulate Dr. Murakawa.

Dr. Crissman spoke of his great respect and admiration for the late Dr. Pinkus, who has been described as the “father of modern dermatology.” He also elaborated on the great significance endowed chairs have to their respective departments and the School of Medicine.  Dr. George Murakawa thanked those in attendance for the warm reception he has received since becoming chairman of the department. He spoke about the department’s rich tradition and the future direction of the department.
