Celebrating the Spirit of Generosity: Obstetrics and Gynecology Endowed Chairs

Drs. Orlando and Dorothy Miller congratulate Lorraine Krawetz and Dr. Stephen Krawetz, holder of the Charlotte Bush Failing Endowed Chair.

William Kuhn, Frank Iacobell and Dr. John Malone are honored with an endowment.

On December 6, 2001, the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology highlighted the generosity of the holiday season by celebrating the philanthropic gifts that made five endowed chairs possible. The event was held at The Century Club within The Gem Theatre in Detroit, and more than 100 guests enjoyed great music, gourmet hors d’oeuvres and wonderful conversation.

Frank Nesi and Alphonse Lucarelli celebrate at the reception.

Even more important, guests had an opportunity to thank the philanthropists who contributed to the endowments. Everyone was pleased that so many donors were present to share the warm spirit of the event. In addition, the physicians and researchers who hold the endowed chair positions were available to share their important work with donors, forging interactive partnerships between donors and the School of Medicine.

Dr. John Crissman presents awards to Dr. Kamran Moghissi and Dr. Michael Diamond, the honoree and holder of a new endowed chair.

During a brief program, John Crissman, MD, dean of the School of Medicine; John Malone, Jr., MD, chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology; and Gwen MacKenzie, executive vice president and chief operating officer of the Detroit Medical Center, spoke of the importance of endowed positions and how vital the department is to this community. They conveyed that endowments enable physicians and researchers to focus on their vital work, rather than spend inordinate amounts of time securing funding.  The speakers also presented awards to the chair holders and to each of the men and women in whose honor the endowed chairs were named.
