Senator
Murphy discusses African- American health disparities.
|
Wayne State
University joined Michigan Sen. Raymond M. Murphy (D-Detroit) in hosting a
group of experts from around the country for the first State of Michigan
African-American Health Policy Day, a daylong discussion and analysis of
the many factors leading to disparities in African-American health.
Keynote
presentations were given by James Simpson, senior policy analyst for the
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and Dr. Louis Sullivan,
president of the Morehouse School of Medicine and former U.S. Secretary of
Health and Human Services.
The State of
Michigan African- American Health Policy Day was organized by
representatives from WSU School of Medicine, the Detroit Medical Center,
the University of Michigan and Michigan State University. The event was a
precursor to the Sen. Raymond M. Murphy African- American Health
Conference, a two-day community health celebration that attracts thousands
annually. |
