In Memoriam

Edward R. Heil, MD, ‘57
Dr. Edward R. Heil, an ear, nose and throat surgeon, died Sunday, July 29, 2001, at Crittenton Hospital in Rochester Hills, Mich., after suffering a heart attack. He was 66 and lived in Birmingham for 37 years, moving there from Detroit.

Dr. Heil had private offices in Troy and also worked at Beaumont Hospitals in Royal Oak and Troy and at the Detroit Medical Center. He graduated from Highland Park High School, earned his bachelor’s and medical degrees at Wayne State University and served his residency at Detroit Receiving Hospital.

Dr. Heil was a fellow of the American College of Surgery and the American College of Otolaryngology. He served on the board of governors of the Alumni Association of Wayne State School of Medicine.

Survivors include his wife of 41 years, Rhea; two sons, Edward Jr. and Walter; a daughter, Elisabeth Gerber; four grandchildren, and a sister.
