Alumni Association Welcomes New Officers The Wayne State University

Medical Alumni Association welcomes the following officers:  

Dr. Bruce Deschere is a 1977 graduate of the Wayne State University School of Medicine. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and a master’s in business administration from Madonna University. A faculty member at Wayne State University since 1991, Dr. Deschere is associate chair and director of medical education in the Department of Family Medicine and he is president of University Physician Services.

In 2001, Dr. Deschere was honored as Michigan Family Practice Educator of the Year and he received a Wayne State University College Teaching Award. In 2000, he was named to Woodward & White’s Best Doctors in America, and he recently served as pastpresident of the Wayne State University Medical Alumni Association.

Dr. Thomas Ditkoff was born and raised in Detroit. He attended Mumford High School, received an undergraduate degree from WSU, and a medical degree from the WSU School of Medicine in 1971. He completed his orthopaedic residency training at William Beaumont Hospital, and did a fellowship in pediatric orthopaedics at the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital in Dallas. He is on staff at William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak where he practices general and pediatric orthopaedic surgery with the group of Weissman, Gitlin and Herkowitz.

Dr. Ditkoff has been married to Linda for 32 years, and they are the proud parents of two children: Howard, a WSU School of Medicine 2000 graduate, and Jeffrey, WSU School of Medicine class of 2004.

Dr. Ditkoff has continued his connections with the medical school by serving as class agent for the class of 1971, as well as being president of the Alumni Board of Governors. His other interests include music and sports.

Dr. Donald B. Muenk is an ophthalmologist in private practice and a clinical assistant professor of ophthalmology at Wayne State University. He is a past-president of the Wayne State University Medical Alumni Association and is currently its treasurer. He now serves as chief of ophthalmology at St. John Macomb Hospital.

Dr. Muenk is a member of the board of directors of the Michigan State Medical Society, chairing the Health Care Delivery Committee and the Third Party Committee. He also serves on the board of directors of the Macomb County Medical Society.

Actively involved in his community, Dr. Muenk has served on the investment committee for Christ Church Cranbrook for many years and has also served as chairman of the beach and swim committee at Pine Lake Country Club. He enjoys tennis, golf and skiing.

Dr. Arthur Ulmer is a 1947 graduate of the Wayne State University School of Medicine. He received his American Board of Obstetricians and Gynecology certification in 1955. He is currently serving as president-elect of the Wayne State University Medical Alumni Association.

Dr. Ulmer’s former affiliations include president of the Wayne County Medical Society, chairman for the Michigan State Medical Society Section, Michigan Blue Cross and Blue Shield board of directors, St. John Hospital chief-ofstaff, Deaconess Hospital board of trustees, Deaconess Hospital chief of obstetrics and gynecology, A.O.A. Medical Honor Society, and president of the Detroit Medical Club.
