Medical Alumni Association President Bruce Deschere
New Millennium, New Ways As we approach the (actual) start of the millennium, the practice and teaching of medicine is undergoing major changes. Not only are they being transformed from a cottage industry to big business, but also, the access and use of medical information is being revolutionized. The WSU Medical Alumni Association is dedicated to helping our students prepare for the future. We have made a major commitment to a building project to enlarge Shiffman Medical Library. Floors will be added, a sky bridge will connect Scott Hall to Shiffman, and a special student study area will be built. This area will include computers and software necessary for students to learn how to access evidence-based medicine on the Internet, do patient simulations and practice for the computerized licensing exams. I am most proud of the strong support of our graduates in this endeavor, since the benefits to students will be immediate and tangible. Thank you! Also, I especially want to thank all who worked on Telefund - alumni and student volunteers, chair Pete Rydesky and members of the School of Medicine staff who logged a string of 14-hour days.
