PATHFINDERS IN MEDICINE

Wayne State University School of Medicine welcomed more than 200 guests on May 17 to the Pathfinders in Medicine Awards dinner held at the Tiger Club at Comerica Park. The annual event recognizes visionary leadership and achievement in medicine.

The 2001 Pathfinders in Medicine Awards were presented to five individuals whose contributions have further raised the awareness of women’s health issues. This year’s recipients were, Julius V. Combs, MD; Mary Fisher; Kamran S. Moghissi, MD; Joan C. Stryker, MD; and, honored posthumously, Charles C. Vincent, MD.

Doris Biscoe, president of Doris Biscoe Communications and former anchor of WXYZ-TV/Channel 7 Action News, presided as the master of ceremonies. School of Medicine Dean John Crissman, MD; WSU Provost Charles Bantz, PhD; and Pathfinders Committee Chairman, Taylor Lewis, MD, presented the awards to the honorees.

Proceeds from the annual event benefit the Black Medical Association of Wayne State University Endowed Grant Fund and the Charles F. Whitten, MD, Postbaccalaureate Endowment Fund.
