WSU RESIDENT RETURNS AS PEDIATRIC UROLOGY CHIEF

Timothy Bukowski, MD, has returned to Wayne State University, where he completed residency training in urology and pediatric urology, to assume the following roles: chief of pediatric urology, professor of urology, and Bicknell Chair in Pediatric Urology.

Dr. Bukowski was born in Buffalo, New York, and obtained a bachelor’s degree in 1983 in economics from Georgetown University. He earned his medical degree in 1987 from the State University at Buffalo School of Medicine. While at SUNY, he was extended the CIBA Geigy Award for Community Commitment.

He completed residency training in urology at WSU and was a research fellow in pediatric urology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and a clinical fellow in pediatric urology at the Children’s Hospital of Michigan.

In July 1995, Dr. Bukowski joined the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill as assistant professor of surgery/pediatrics and director of pediatric urology. He was awarded the Resident Teaching Award in 1998 and received the UNC School of Medicine Roster of Teaching Excellence Award in 1999.

His interests include pediatric laparoscopy for undescended testicles and kidney abnormalities using the mini-laparoscope, as well as other conditions such as hypospadias, vesicoureteral reflux, intersex conditions, kidney obstruction and other congenital urologic abnormalities. Pediatric urinary tract stone disease and fetal urologic intervention are other areas of expertise.
