Alumni Describe Experiences at Career Evening

Dr. Michael Sandler (fourth from the left) joined students for pizza and pop in the Scott Hall cafeteria. The reception following the program allowed for informal discussion among alumni and students.

At the Alumni-Student Career Evening, an annual Medical Alumni Association event, 100 School of Medicine students learned about practicing various medical specialties by meeting with alumni who shared first-hand insights into their career experiences. Students rotated through several sessions, each exploring diverse topics from specific residency programs to professional and personal issues. The program also included a presentation on the Match process by Dr. Jane Thomas, assistant dean for student affairs, and an overview of residency training by Alumni Association President Dr. Bruce Deschere, vice chair and residency director for the Department of Family Medicine.

Thanks to the alumni volunteers who conducted sessions: Drs. Jason Bodzin (general surgery), Gary Chodoroff (physical medicine, rehabilitation and sports medicine), Carol Clark (emergency medicine), Steven Dean (ob/gyn), David Decker (medical oncology), Bruce Deschere (family medicine), Thomas Ditkoff (orthopedics), Jane Krasnick, (allergy/immunology), Carl Lauter (infectious disease), Irving Miller (pediatrics), William O’Neill (cardiology), Sheila Ray (otolaryngology), Earl Rudner (dermatology), Michael Sandler (radiology), Sharon Schaefer (anesthesiology), Ken Shaheen (plastic surgery) and Marilyn Sultana (ophthalmology).
