1971
Michael Sandler, MD,
a member of the school’s Medical Alumni Association board of governors, has been elected chair of the Michigan State Medical Society’s Legislative Policy Committee.

1972
Michel Sucher, MD,
was promoted to senior vice president and chief medical officer of Rural/Metro Corporation earlier this year. With more than $50 million in annual revenue, Rural/Metro Latin America is the largest ambulance service in Argentina, employing 2,000 people (including 1,000 physicians) in four cities. The corporation also provides medical transportation and fire protection services in more than 400 communities across the United States. Sucher previously served for five years as Rural/Metro’s Vice President for Medical Affairs.

1985
David Hunstad, MD,
was featured in a July 5th Detroit News Health report. An anesthesiologist at Beaumont Hospital/Royal Oak, Hunstad was lauded for his innovative application of a device he uses as an amateur auto racer to alleviate motion sickness caused by high speed driving. Manufactured by a California biomedical company, the device is worn like a wristwatch.  Receiving FDA approval in early 2000 for its use in treating patients, the ReliefBand is being used to treat postoperative nausea in Beaumont’s hospitals.

1987
David Randolph, MD,
has been elected to the Michigan State Medical Society board of directors. He practices internal medicine in Midland, Michigan.

1989
Mark Juzych, MD,
has recently been promoted to associate professor in ophthalmology at the WSU affiliate, Kresge Eye Institute, where his responsibilities include directing the residency program. Mark has also been named associate chair of the school’s ophthalmology department.

1992
Charles Oh, MD,
will be the piano soloist when the Michigan Symphonietta and the Detroit Concert Choir perform Beethoven’s Choral Fantasy in a benefit concert for medical research on Sunday, November 12, 2000.  For ticket information contact the Detroit Concert Choir at (313) 882-0118 or visit their website, www.detroitconcertchoir.org.

Mark Thompson, MD, reports that he left family practice in the United States in 1998 and moved with Donna, his wife of 5 years, and their children, Jesse, 4 and Janelle, 3, to Amazonas, Brazil.  After spending 1999 learning Portuguese, the Thompsons settled in Santo Antonio, a town located in the rainforest along the Amazon River. “A good atlas will show it near the Columbian border.” Mark and Donna are working with a trauma surgeon in a 20-bed mission hospital. 1994
Douglas Files, MD,
completed an internal medicine residency at Duke University Medical Center in 1997. After two years in private practice in Palm Bay, Fla., he joined the U.S. Army.  Doug is currently working as a flight surgeon at Ft. Campbell, Ky. Doug enjoys caring for pilots and flying in helicopters. Classmates can contact him at douglas.files@gateway.net.

Lydia Juzych, MD,
is currently chief resident in dermatology at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit.

1998
Jim Pribble, MD,
a second year resident in emergency medicine at William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak, Mich., has been selected as a Robert Wood Johnson Clinical Scholar. The prestigious award recognizes excellence in research and scholarly activity. Jim will spend his two-year tenure as a RWJ Clinical Scholar at the University of Michigan Medical Center.

2000
Daniel Dibardino, MD, is entering a general surgery residency at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. 

Graduate Medical Programs
Aurelio Rodriguez, MD, fellow in cardiothoracic surgery,’77 -’79, has been appointed director of the trauma program at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh. In his new position, Dr. Rodriguez will oversee coordination of all clinical specialties involved in caring for trauma patients, as well as trauma research and trauma related emergency medical services outreach initiatives. Most recently, he was associate director of trauma at the University of Maryland Medical Center’s Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.
