Academia and Industry:
Working
Together
for Biomedical Advances
Traditionally, research universities have immersed themselves in the
creation of knowledge, while corporations have been concerned solely with
the creation of profit. Those missions were clear cut and rarely did
they intersect-until now.WSU Considered Model
Program
in Prenatal Genetic Analysis
Applied Biosystems offers its many customers a wide array of hardware and
software products. With its strong expertise in genetic analysis,
Wayne State University is one of only a few customers in the country using
nearly every product and technology that Applied Biosystems makes.
This uniquely positions WSU to be a major player in bioinformatics and
biotechnology development.
WSU Gets Early Access To Corning
Technology
When Corning Inc. released its CMT Yeast Gene Array in 2001, it was the
first product in a brand new market line and it was the public's first
look at Corning's Microarray Technologies. Wayne State University's
Dr. Craig Giroux, however, had already been testing the product for many
months.
Dr. Joan Dunbar: Research
Matchmaker
When it comes to entrepreneurial spirit, it takes one to know one.
Perhaps that's the reason Joan Dunbar, PhD, was appointed director of
biotechnology development at the Wayne State University School of Medicine.
She recognizes an opportunity when she sees it and she knows how to bring
collaborators together. |
